VAT Exemption

At RESCOOT, we want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to access the financial support available through VAT relief. This government scheme allows eligible individuals to purchase certain mobility and disability products without paying VAT.

What Is VAT Relief?

VAT relief allows eligible customers to pay 0% VAT on qualifying mobility and disability products. This scheme is provided by HMRC under Notice 701/7 to support people with long-term illnesses or disabilities.

Who Qualifies for VAT Relief?

You may qualify if all of the following apply:

  • You are chronically sick or disabled.
  • The product is for your personal or domestic use.
  • The item is not being purchased for a business, care home, hospital or for resale.
  • You complete a VAT relief declaration during checkout.

Please note that temporary injuries and age alone do not qualify for VAT exemption.

Examples of Qualifying Conditions

Common qualifying conditions include:

  • Arthritis and severe joint conditions
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Motor neurone disease (MND)
  • Stroke-related mobility issues
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Permanent spinal injuries
  • Diabetes with mobility complications
  • Dementia or Alzheimer's disease
  • Terminal illness

Eligible Products

Many mobility and daily living products may qualify, including:

  • Mobility scooters
  • Replacement batteries and chargers (where eligible)
  • Wheelchairs
  • Walking aids and rollators
  • Riser recliner chairs
  • Adjustable beds
  • Bathroom aids and commodes
  • Hoists and lifting equipment

How to Claim VAT Relief

  1. Add your eligible products to your basket.
  2. Select the VAT exemption option during checkout.
  3. Complete the short declaration confirming your eligibility.
  4. VAT will be removed automatically from qualifying items.

We securely retain VAT relief declarations in accordance with HMRC requirements.
